Players invite public to share their stories of war

Snapshots from Home is a play by Margery Forde that is being shown at The Maleny Playhouse.

This play gives us the human face of war. It is not a picture we are familiar with from television action movies and video game adventures. We are challenged not only to observe the impact of war on the lives of real people, but also to question our own attitudes and values to the world in which we live.

Margery decided to write a collage of memories, a collection of snapshots linked together by visual images, radio broadcast, dance music and songs.

This was wartime Australia seen through the eyes of the very young, children and teenagers growing up during those six years, only gradually becoming aware of the enormity of world events. While some of the experiences were common to many, others were intensely personal. They were honest stories, sad, tragic, heartbreaking and often hilariously funny.

Do you or a family member have memories of World War II?

Here’s your chance to share your story. Maleny Players invite you to write approximately 100 words of nonfiction, sharing personal or family experiences of life on the Home Front during the second World War.

Seven selected pieces will be read aloud to our live audience, and if your submission is chosen, you’ll receive two complimentary tickets to a performance of your choice.

Submission deadline is April 20, 2025. Send entries to malenyplayersproductions@gmail.com with the subject line: Snapshots Comp.

• Snapshots from Home runs from 25th April to 11th May. You can purchase your tickets at www.trybooking.com/CZIHN and The Maleny Visitors Information Centre.
