Colourful yarn bombing takes over Nambour’s Queen St ahead of the Show

By Tani du Toit

LOCAL creative collective Fabric Cartel is weaving colour, whimsy, and community spirit through the heart of Nambour in the lead-up to the Nambour Agricultural Show, running June 13-15, 2025.

In a joyful display of creativity, the trees along Queen Street - one of Nambour’s most charming heritage strips - have been transformed with a vibrant yarn bombing installation by Ms Virginia Price, the owner of Fabric Cartel on Ann Street. The handcrafted creations, made by volunteering knitters and crocheters, including families and Nambour CWA members, include crocheted creatures, colourful shapes, and playful patterns designed to delight all ages.

Adding to the fun, families can pick up a Treasure Hunt Map from Fabric Cartel’s Facebook page, inviting children to search for specific creatures, symbols, shapes, and colours hidden within the yarn bombing. The self-guided hunt winds through Queen Street and ends inside Fabric Cartel at The Threadquarters Table, on Ann Street.

“This project brings together everything we love about Nambour: creativity, connection, and colour,” said Virginia Price, the owner of Fabric Cartel who inspired the community to take part. “It’s a way to get the community involved, especially families, and to add something magical to the town in celebration of the upcoming show.”

There will also be a photo competition, with the first prize being a Family Pass to the Show, donated by the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show Society.

Ms Price said the yarn bombing installation will remain on display throughout June, serving as a warm and colourful welcome to visitors arriving for the Agricultural Show, one of the Sunshine Coast’s most anticipated annual events.
