Montville Health Centre is raising the bar for local healthcare, delivering quality care across a wide range of medical services — all with a warm, personal approach.
Located on Main Street, next to the Visitor Information Centre, the medical centre has a welcoming feel, with a compassionate atmosphere and staff committed to bringing the highest quality of health care to each individual, families and the wider community of Montville.
The practice provided general medical care for all ages as well as specialised services including aviation and diving medicals, Workcover, women’s health care and driving assessments.
Dr Peter Herbert, the centre’s owner and principal GP, brings decades of regional experience along with patient care.
He incorporates a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness with the assistance of a registered nurse.
Nurse Renee provides preventative health including immunisations, health assessments, care plans and wound mangement.
“We aim to provide the highest standard of care in a relaxed, supportive environment,” Dr Herbert said. “For many of our patients, it’s about trust and continuity — they want to see the same doctor, and know they’re being listened to.”
Montville Health Centre is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Appointments can be booked online, and walk-ins are welcome when available.
The practice operates on a mixed billing model, but offers bulk billing to children under 16, pensioners, DVA card holders, Health Care Card holders.
Dr Herbert said the team focused strongly on preventative care and long-term health.
“Good medicine isn’t just about treating illness — it’s about helping people live better and stay well,” he said.
Just what the doctor ordered for village
When Montville’s previous medical practice closed, locals were left without a doctor — and concern quickly grew about access to healthcare in the town.
That’s when Dr Peter Herbert stepped in.
“There was a clear need in the community,” Dr Herbert said. “People were worried about losing local services, and I knew we could help.”
The result was Montville Health Centre — now an essential service in the hinterland town.
Since opening, the clinic has re-established local access to healthcare, saving residents from travelling for appointments and tests.
Long term commitment
Dr Herbert said the clinic’s aim has always been to serve the community, not just as a convenience, but as a long-term commitment.
“Being part of the town means understanding what people need and being available when they need us,” he said. “That’s why we made the decision to open five days a week and offer both general and specialised services.”
