Exhibition to benefit Neighbourhood Centre

Renowned artist Michele Retschlag will showcase her luminous watercolors in an upcoming exhibition, ‘Miles of Moments,’ with 25 percent of proceeds benefiting the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

The exhibition will take place at her home studio in North Maleny in early November.

The watercolours draw on Michele’s travels throughout Australia and abroad.

Whether capturing the ripples on a Venetian canal or the sinuous lines of the Australian landscape, Michele’s virtuosity will take your breath away.

When introduced to watercolour in her late 20s, she felt she had finally come home.

The versatility of the medium intrigued her. “If you spread a thick layer of opaque paint across a wet surface, the colour just explodes!” she explains.

“You can’t fully control it, so you experience these serendipitous moments that just blow you away.”

Michele’s career as a prize-winning artist and art teacher spans four decades. She finds as much joy in teaching others as she does in painting itself.

“I love seeing the light go on in the students’ minds, as they realise what watercolour can do. And I love seeing them do it.”

Motivated by her concern for the homeless and underprivileged, Michele has generously decided to donate a quarter of the proceeds to the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

“I often take surplus fruit down to the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre.

“One day I was chatting with the front desk volunteers. I was so impressed by their enthusiasm, I decided to go local and make the MNC the beneficiary.”

▶ ‘Miles of Moments’ is showing at 3 Obi Lane North Maleny from Monday 31 October to Wednesday 8 November. Michele’s studio will be open from 10am to 4pm daily.
