Maleny Show is a quintessential country show.

As organisers gear up for a weekend of festivities at the Maleny Show this Friday and Saturday (May 31 and June 1), they're keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast, hoping the rain holds off.

Set against the picturesque Maleny Showgrounds on Stanley River Road, the annual event is a cherished part of the Range’s cultural heritage, reflecting its rich farming history. However, it has often been accompanied by rain, a tradition new President Lynda Burgess hopes to change this year.

“Our grounds are just starting to recover from all of the rain and we are hoping that this lovely sunny weather continues for at least another couple of weeks,” said Show Society President Lynda Burgess.

Over a century of tradition

With a legacy spanning over a century, the Maleny Show holds a special place in the hearts of locals and tourists alike.

"The Maleny Show has been an integral part of our community for generations, growing in popularity and size over the years to become one of the Sunshine Coast's premier events."

Organised by the dedicated members of the Maleny Show Society, the event is a labour of love aimed at preserving the region's agricultural and cultural traditions. Volunteers, many of whom have familial ties to the show stretching back through the years, work tirelessly to ensure the show's success, from coordinating exhibits and competitions to providing logistical support throughout the event.

"The show is a celebration of our rural way of life and showcases the best of regional Queensland," Mrs Burgess said. "It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of our community, and we're proud to continue this tradition year after year."

Great entertainment & livestock

Guests can look forward to diverse activities and entertainment for all ages and interests. From captivating animal displays and competitions featuring cattle, sheep and horses to awe-inspiring arts and crafts exhibitions showcasing the talents of local artisans.

Livestock enthusiasts can witness the excitement of judging competitions across multiple categories, including horses, ponies, beef cattle, dairy cattle, and poultry, with four rings operating continuously each day. Show jumping enthusiasts won't want to miss the thrilling displays of skill and agility, including a special Friday evening session.

“Also the Trade Site featuring pigmy goats should create some interest for young and young-at-heart patrons,” said Mrs Burgess.

For those with a passion for creativity, the show offers a plethora of opportunities to admire and participate in various pavilion categories, from cut flowers and photography to cooking and woodworking. Additionally, visitors can indulge in a wide selection of food and drinks served at stalls throughout the showgrounds, featuring local produce and specialty items.

"The Maleny Show is more than just an event; it's a celebration of our community's spirit and heritage," Mrs Burgess said. "We invite everyone to join us for a weekend of fun, learning, and camaraderie. Celebrate the tradition, community, and the unique character of Maleny. It's an experience you won't want to miss."

The society has organised three offsite parks with convenient shuttle buses running from 8am until late each day.
