Hospital Auxiliary tees off for annual event

The Maleny Hospital Auxiliary’s annual Charity Golf Day was a smashing success, raising a significant amount for the hospital’s ongoing needs. Held on May 17 at the picturesque Maleny Golf Club, the event saw 96 enthusiastic golfers take to the greens despite a few showers.

The day kicked off with a shotgun start at 9am, setting the stage for friendly competition and community spirit. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Hole in One challenge on the 17th hole, which resulted in a generous $1000 donation to the Auxiliary, marking a first for the Maleny Golf Club.

“The community’s support was overwhelming,” said Maleny Hospital Auxiliary President Carole Lewis. “It’s heart-warming to see everyone come together for such a great cause. The funds raised will make a significant impact on the hospital, especially as we focus on palliative care improvements.”

The event featured sponsorship for each hole, with some sponsors going the extra mile by backing two holes. Local businesses like IGA, Woolworths, and Maleny Cheese provided essential supplies for the day. The German Bakehouse’s fresh pastries and Brouhaha’s boutique beers were among the well-received refreshments, adding a touch of local flavour to the festivities.

Special thanks were extended to Jan Maguire and Heather Shortus, who expertly managed the registration table and ensured the event ran smoothly. “Their dedication and organizational skills were crucial in making the day a success,” Lewis remarked.

Raffle prizes and donations from the community added to the event’s success, with a stand-out contribution from the Golf Club, which provided $100 worth of golfing items and a donated golf bag for the raffle. The club’s generosity didn’t stop there; a member’s personal donation for the Hole in One challenge significantly boosted the funds raised.

The Maleny Hospital Auxiliary’s efforts culminated in a well-organized, enjoyable day for all participants. “We’ve already received positive feedback from many players, expressing their gratitude and enjoyment,” Mrs Lewis noted. The Auxiliary is looking forward to next year’s event, set for May 16, 2025, and hopes to see even more community involvement.

With community support playing such a vital role, the Auxiliary is optimistic about the future. “Together, we’re making a difference,” Lewis said. “We couldn’t do it without the incredible generosity of our local supporters.”
