Baroque Brilliance: A dazzling concert of timeless classics

Andrew Paszkowski (viola), Christy Dykes (clarinet), Anna Moores (violin), Sue Hunkin (oboe), Janet Brewer (harpsichord), Carolyn Moore (horn), Neil Heymink (bassoon), Franziska Frank (cello), Nik Davey (bass).

Pacific Chamber Players are presenting their annual Baroque Brilliance concert 2.30pm Saturday 18 November at Eudlo Hall and Sunday 19 November at Cooroy Memorial Hall.

This year’s programme is full of variety.  It features works by Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka, Italian composers Antonio Caldara and Antonio Vivaldi, and German composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann.  Zelenka and Bach were brilliant in their writing of counterpoint and use of harmonies.

Their works are highly intelligent taking the player and listener through many keys and hence emotions.  They also require a virtuosic brilliance from the Players.

Caldara and Vivaldi’s pieces are very Italian, in that they have lovely melodies but are also very rhythmic.

One can’t help but tap one’s toes.  Telemann was one of the most popular composers of the time.  The reason can be heard in Andrew Paszkowski’s performance of Telemann’s Viola Concerto in G and Neil Heymink’s rendition of the Bassoon Sonata in F minor.

Other soloists for the afternoon are mother and daughter team, flautists Sharelle and Jazmin Guest, performing in Brandenburg Concerto No 4.  Violinist Anna Moores and oboist Sue Hunkin will feature in Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C Minor.

Pacific Chamber Players have been providing quality professional chamber music on the Sunshine Coast for more than 20 years.

As usual, the audience will not be disappointed with the music nor the musicianship of the Players.

Tickets are $33 Adult, $30 Concession, and $10 School Student.  These are available online at www.pacificchamberplayers.com or cash at the door.
