Live Music adds to Nambour Markets vibe

The Nambour Sunday Market is set to return in February 2025 with an exciting new addition that promises to bring fresh energy and creativity to the heart of the town: live music performances by talented local students.

Organiser Rhonda Billett has announced the launch of ‘Nambour Live and Local in 2025 - the Sounds of Nambour,’ a musical initiative that will showcase the talents of local high school students at the monthly markets held on the third Sunday from 9 am to noon in the Nambour Library Forecourt.

“At the last few Nambour Sunday Markets for 2024 (Rummagers Market), people may have noticed some new sounds of Nambour coming from the Nambour Library Forecourt,” said Ms. Billett. “For the past two Sunday Markets, we have trialled having live music in the mix of our event. And the community loves the vibe. So much so that we have applied for a Sunshine Coast Council grant to further promote the local student music scene, working alongside the Nambour Business Groups in 2025.”

Ms. Billett explained that all of the music would be sourced from local high schools in the hinterland. “The first school we trialled in October 2024 was Nambour State College students, and for the second trial in November, we had St Johns College students. The students performed so well that I spoke to the team at Tram Co, and we decided to include them in the Christmas Tram Fest event line-up also.

“It’s time we give these students a go at things; there is such a huge pool of talent among them all. We want to let them have their own live music events in the Nambour CBD and share their amazing talents regularly. We will be starting ‘Nambour Live and Local’ in the Nambour Sunday Market space once a month and grow it from there.

“We hope to get all of our local schools involved in 2025 and provide opportunities for them to bring further activation to the Nambour Special Entertainment Precinct and share their amazing talents with their community. Once we have our next Nambour Groups meeting, we will have even more to share with the community on this project as we would also like to extend the students’ bands and ensembles into some of our local hospitality venues to perform, as well as look to host further music events in the Nambour CBD for the students.”

Ms Billett is calling on all local schools’ music departments to get in contact via the I Am Nambour website, register their school’s interest, and get their students into the program for 2025. The Nambour Sunday Rummagers Market is a community initiative endorsed and auspiced by the Nambour Tram Way Company.
