Nambour charity, the Everyday Foundation, formerly known as Suncoast Care, has partnered with Sunshine Coast coffee roastery Kai Coffee to raise funds to provide winter warmth to the most vulnerable in our community.

All profits from specially marked Kai coffee beans go towards the ‘Beans for Beanies’ cause.

The foundation is putting together winter packs including a beanie, gloves, warm socks and other warm clothes for those doing it tough in our community.

Operations Manager of the Everyday Foundation, Karen Gullo, is passionate about the cause and the difference the campaign will make to those sleeping rough as the temperature begins to drop.

“We hope the community will get behind the cause by purchasing the beans so that we can put together enough winter packs to meet the demand,” said Karen.

“We have seen an increase of requests for warm clothes at the Daily Bread, our meal support kitchen.

“Last week we provided some packs to a single mother who asked if we had any warm clothes for her four kids who were all under six.”

Daily Bread offers free meals twice a week to those that need, bringing community and connection as well as a nutritious meal.

“Our team of volunteers are doing their best to meet the requests for winter clothes, we even had a volunteer take off their own shoes when they saw a patron didn’t have a pair.”

The annual initiative aims to bring awareness to the needs of the most vulnerable on the Sunshine Coast.

Partnering with Suncoast Christian College, the “winter warmies” packs are assembled by primary school students to be distributed in the winter months.

“We’re only a quarter of the way into our fundraising goal so we are hoping to see an uptake in sales so that we make as many winter packs as possible.”
